Bible Verses to Help Overcome Anxiety

If you’re looking for Bible Verses to Help Overcome Anxiety, you’re in the right place.

Plenty of saints in the Bible experienced anxiety, depression, worry and even despair. Their writings tell the story:

For we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself.  2 Corinthians 1:8, ESV

These saints learned how to push through to the other side of their valley.

Sometimes it took a while and involved a lot of stress –and even fear. Other times they got through in a snap.

It’s no different with us.

The circumstances might not be the same, but our God is always the same. He is faithful!

When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken. Psalm 34:17-20 ESV

When we read his word and see how so many saints triumphed over their circumstances by cleaving to the God Who Saves, it makes our journey easier and more victorious!

Even the angels long to look into these things.

How do I get rid of anxiety according to the Bible?

God knows us better than we know ourselves. He has a prescription for dealing with anxiety and depression.

So what does God say about anxiety and fear?

Here are some great ideas straight from his word:

“do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  Phil. 4:6-7, ESV

“When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.” Ps. 34:17, ESV

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7, ESV

So let’s be sure to be informed by his word and do what it says. Be aware of his word and remember to pray according to what it says.

Let your requests be made known to God through prayer in Jesus’ name.

Remember that God has not given us a spirit of fear. That spirit comes from somewhere else other than God.

When we are full of the Holy Spirit, we are as bold as a lion.

Psalm 27

Of David, King James Version

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple. For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord.Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek.Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.10 When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up. 11 Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies. 12 Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty. 13 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. 14 Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.

Amen!

To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. A Maskil of David. Give ear to my prayer, O God, and hide not yourself from my plea for mercy! Fear and trembling come upon me, and horror overwhelms me. …
