How can we truly learn what God is like if we can’t see him? There’s one place to find out. The Bible. It’s God’s word.
So how does the Bible describe God?
God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth. John 4:24
Since we are finite and He is infinite, our understanding will always fall short of comprehending his eternal glory. And since God is spirit, we cannot comprehend him with our limited senses.
We often make the mistake of trying to create God in our image.
Maybe this is why he tells us in the 2nd Commandment not to try to represent him in artwork as a graven image.
But he tells us many things about himself in his eternal word. He tells us his many names and his other attributes.
One type of knowledge men have always craved from time immemorial is the knowledge of God. Man has been using his wisdom and senses to search for God and has not found Him, making some people conclude that there is no God.
Any search for God and His knowledge outside the Bible will lead to failure and more confusion, which is what the world is experiencing today.
But God had revealed Himself through the Bible.
John 5:39
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
Read and meditate on the word of God, you will not only find Him, but you will also prosper and have good success.
Who is God According to the Bible?
God is the creator of heaven and earth, together with all the inhabitants.
Genesis 1:1
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
He created man as a unique being who carries His image and likeness. He ordained us to give Him pleasure by executing His plans and purpose on earth.
God is one, but He reveals Himself to us as three distinct personalities; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The reason for this is to enable Him to carry out His perfect work of redemption of man on earth.
God sent Jesus His only begotten son into the world to die and shed His blood for the remission of our sins. He is the only means through which we can have access to God.
Acts 4:12, ESV
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
God had set an appointed time when He will judge the world for all sins and unrighteousness committed under the heaven. He had ordained that as many people who are not washed in the blood of the Lamb, and whose names are not written in the book of life will receive eternal condemnation.
God is spirit, He does not have a physical body, hence cannot be seen with physical eyes.
He is immortal, He has neither beginning nor ending because He is the First and the Last.
The truth is that before the beginning of all things recorded in human history God had been, He knows the root or the foundation of all things.
This is the reason why He can reveal secrets of the past and the future to people whenever it is necessary.
He revealed the cause of the barrenness of the city of Jericho to Elisha – the curse of Joshua. 2 Kings 2:19-21. And he revealed many future events –such as the hundreds of Messianic prophecies.
God is love 1 John 4:8. He is kind Psalm 36:7.
He expresses sorrow. He can be angry Exodus 32:10-11. He has will 1 Thessalonians 4:3.
He can make decisions. He is self-existent John 5:26. He is unlimited Job 36:22-24.
The love God has for man is so great that He gave His only begotten son as a sacrifice for the sin of man. The Bible says while we were yet sinners Christ died for us Romans 5:8.
He is so merciful that He can forgive all sins no matter how great.
1John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
What Bible Verse Says You Are God?
Psalm 82:6
I said, “You are gods, And all of you are children of the Highest.
The Bible calls us god (little “g”) because we have been ordained to continue the work of creation as we take charge as the representatives of the Almighty. For example, he calls us to judge between right and wrong.
This was the mandate that God gave to man after creating him.
I doesn’t mean we were or are God or can become God. It just means God gave man the high responsibility of making right judgments.
We are to conduct ourselves in a manner worthy of his call on our lives.
Genesis 1:28
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
It means God wants us to determine what happens on earth. We are to practically run it, with our God-given knowledge and ability.
Adam took this responsibility and was able to take care of the garden of Eden, and name all the animals on earth.
Unfortunately, when he sinned, he lost these abilities and become an ordinary man and was overcome by sicknesses, death, sufferings, pains, etc.
Jesus came as the last Adam to restore us to what the first Adam lost. He said
“And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues;” Mark 16:17.
It takes only the “gods” to do that. The disciples did it. The Bible recorded that signs and wonders were following them as they went about preaching.
The whole of the book of Acts of the Apostles was dedicated to telling the whole world the exploits they did in the name of Jesus and in the power of the Holy Spirit.
The “gods” actually returned on the day of Pentecost, when they received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues.

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
